Eucharistic Adoration for an hour is part of the daily schedule at the minor seminary. What has been said about the Holy Mass should alsobe said with respect to Adoration. It is very good for the boys that during Eucharistic adoration, communal prayers be offered in certain circumstances: praying for the Pope and his intentions, for the Church, for the local Bishop, for the Congregation, for missions, etc. In addition to the immense value of these prayers before God, this act of communal petitioning builds enthusiasm in the seminarians for prayer and leads them to strive with more vigor against the difficulties that they may encounter in prayer. St. John Bosco strongly recommended his youths to visit the most Blessed Sacrament: these visits are a fount of great blessings, they help one to live with greater recollection, and they enliven the spirit of faith. “Have the good habit making a visit to the Eucharistic Jesus during the day. Let it be, if you want, a short visit, but make it daily."
The Sacrament of Penance: all means must be made available so that the seminarian can confess well and not fall into rote routine. For this reason, great zeal in facilitating the means so that the boys achieve these good dispositions is appropriate. To this end, a carefully celebrated sacrament of penance is prepared every Thursday, including scriptural reading, sermons, prayers of the penitent, and a well directed examination of conscience. We want the boys to see the beauty and sanctifying efficacy of the sacrament.
Devotion to Mary Our Mother: The three communal Hail Mary’s upon waking up allow the seminarians to begin the day in honor of the Blessed Virgin as well as making a generous act of the will in order to leave sleep behind. The three Hail Mary’s at night, besides all the wonders that the saints promise to those who practice this devotion, help to lift the soul to God. The seminarians learn to benefit from the prayer of the Angelus the contemplation of the Incarnation of the Word and to super naturalize the activities of the day. “The minor seminary should be a school of filial and profound love for the Holy Virgin Mary. Devotion to the Rosary and the praying of the Angelus should be especially appreciated.” The Holy Rosary, in addition to devout vocal prayer, is a true school of contemplation.
